5.9 - Beta Release (June 2021)

The changes in this beta will be available in the next Source production release, Source 5.10 due out at the end of June 2021.

This release includes improvements to:

  • the Calibration Tool
  • Hot-start rainfall-runoff models
  • Scenario Input Sets
  • notes in Environmental Flow
  • Hydroclimate Data Transformation Tool Plugin update
  • a number of minor issues.

Calibration Improvements

The calibration tool has been significantly extended. You can now:

  • calibrate Schematic Scenarios
  • calibrate any parameters in the model that are available through Scenario Input Sets
  • specify relationships between meta-parameters.

This is a significant step forward for the calibration tool, it's currently called Flow Calibration Tool, however, this should be updated soon.

Hot-start rainfall-runoff models

When running Rainfall-runoff models GR4J or Sacramento, you can take a Snapshot of their internal state variables, this can then be saved to a file and applied at the start of a model run. This removes the need to do a warmup period for running these rainfall-runoff models.  The snapshot files now include catchment name and functional unit names as well as an additional metadata file.  e.g:

MyHotStartFileName.rsnap

MyHotStartFileName.rsnap.metadata

Scenario Input Sets

Scenario Input Sets now supports values that can go over one line. To use {MultiLineValue} include it after the = sign, and end it with {/MultiLineValue}.

Example: MultiLineValue.txt

Hydroclimate Data Transformation Tool Plugin Update

There has been a number of improvements to the plugin, this is version 2.2.

Details and the new manual are available here: /wiki/spaces/SD510/pages/54592843

Minor issues resolved

Minor issues include:

  • improvements to operations forecast specific validation
  • exporting to Excel would sometimes rearrange the column order. We have enforced alphabetical order for the excel export
  • loading without a plugin would sometimes not be presented as a warning, this has been resolved.

Plugin Developers

We have upgraded to Visual Studio 2019. Plugin developers will need to use Visual Studio 2019 for 5.8beta onwards.

Regression Testing

There is no tolerance in our regression test suite to allow for earlier identification of results being different on different machines or versions of operating systems.

Regression test repository changes since the first Source 5.8beta:

(warning) 11 Project updated results
(warning) 02 Project files updated
(plus) 01 Project Added
(minus) 01 Project Removed

Details here: 5.9 Regression Test Changes

Insight

To run Insight, you also need to install the 32bit version of Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 Redistributable Package.
This installer is for 32bit machines and 64bit machines since the library we use is 32bit: Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 Redistributable Package (x86).
