Although MUSICX projects are typically setup using the MUSICX graphical user interface, you can also import MUSIC projects as .msf file. This is particularly important when you want to import your MUSIC classic (MUSIC 6.3) file to MUSICX. input a MUSIC project to MUSICX. The MUSIC project file can be inputted into MUSICX in two file formats:
- MUSIC Export Files (*.mef) since MUSIC 6.4
- MUSIC Setup Files (*.msf) since MUSIC 6.3
MUSIC Export Files (*.mef) keeps the whole model, including all model components and data, in one file. The user only needs to input an MEF file to MUSICX, and then the same model can run in MUSICX. It is a convenient way to convert the MUSIC model to MUSICX.
MUSIC Setup Files (*.msf) are text-based files that can be developed in any external text editor or spreadsheet software. *msf can be developed independently of MUSIC as described here. This makes the *.msf particularly useful for automatically creating MUSIC projects using third-party software. This is particularly important when you want to import your MUSIC classic (MUSIC 6.3) file to MUSICX.
However, the MSF file may not include all components and data of the original MUSIC model, such as climate data, user-defined nodes, and custom data files. The user needs to prepare the separated files for such data files and manually add these missed custom nodes and data files from MUSICX interface.
