Although MUSICX projects are typically setup using the MUSICX graphical user interface, you can also input a MUSIC export file to MUSICX. The MUSIC export file can be inputted into MUSICX in two file formats:
- MUSIC Export Files (*.mef) since MUSIC 6.4
- MUSIC Setup Files (*.msf) since MUSIC 6.3
MUSIC Export Files (*.mef) keep the whole mode, including all model components and data, in one file. The user only needs to input the MEF file to MUSICX and then get the running model. This is a convenient way to convert the MUSIC model to MUSICX. Note that the storage routing of a link in the MEF file will not be inputted due to the different storage routing definitions between MUSIC and MUSICX.
MUSIC Setup Files (*.msf) are text-based files that can be developed in any external text editor or spreadsheet software. A MSF can be developed independently of MUSIC as described here. This makes the MSF particularly useful for automatically creating MUSIC projects using third-party software. This is particularly important when you want to import your MUSIC classic (MUSIC 6.3) file to MUSICX.
However, the MSF file may not include all components and data of the original MUSIC model, such as climate data, user-defined nodes, and custom data files. The user needs to prepare the separated files for such data files and manually add these missed custom nodes and data files from MUSIC/MUSICX interface.
