Importing MUSIC Export Files (MEF) and MUSIC Setup Files (MSF)

While MUSICX projects are typically set up using the MUSICX graphical user interface, they can also be created using MEF/MSF import options. This is especially useful for transitioning MUSIC 6 files to MUSICX. The MUSIC6 files can be imported into MUSICX in two file formats:

  • MUSIC Export Files (*.mef) since MUSIC 6.4
  • MUSIC Setup Files (*.msf) since MUSIC 6.3

MUSIC Export Files (*.mef) encapsulate the entire model, including all components and data, within a single file. Users simply need to import the MEF file to MUSICX to run the model, providing a straightforward method for converting MUSIC models to MUSICX. However, please note that the storage routing of a link in the MEF file will not be transferred, due to differing definitions of storage routing between MUSIC6 and MUSICX.

MUSIC Setup Files (*.msf) are text-based files that can be created using any external text editor or spreadsheet software. An MSF can be developed independently of MUSIC, making it particularly useful for automatically creating MUSIC projects using third-party software. This is particularly important when you want to import only the model set up from MUSIC6 file to MUSICX. Please note that the MSF file may not contain all components and data from the original MUSIC6 model, such as climate data, SQH curve if any, user-defined nodes, and custom data files. Users must prepare these separate data files and manually add any missing custom nodes and data files using the MUSIC/MUSICX interface.
